Fostering the Enterprising Mindset

Providing you the entrepreneurial resources to achieve success

Students interested in entrepreneurship have countless opportunities at RIT. We ensure there is a strong enterprising culture that exists inside and out of the classroom. Depending on the desired level of engagement, you can nurture an idea from ideation to commercialization, or provide your expertise as a consultant to a burgeoning team begins prototyping their product.

The entrepreneurial experience begins in The Freshman Experience: Biz 1+2. In the two-semester cohort course, ideas are explored, connections established with classmates, and students discover their preferred business major.

The Simone Center for Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship can be an invaluable resource to any student interested in entrepreneurship. Promoting entrepreneurial endeavors, the Simone Center offers students applied experiences, such as for-credit opportunities to consult on pre-seed and start-up ventures, business plan competitions, and courses in innovation, strategic growth, and business creativity. Students at any level may get involved in the activities that range from idea speed-dating to obtaining coaching on a new business venture. As an entrepreneurial-minded student, you can choose to live in the Entrepreneurs’ Hall, a holistic student-living environment that combines residential living, cohort entrepreneurship courses, mentorships, unique entrepreneurial co-ops, and 24/7 access to the student incubator.

Some of the most popular events the Simone Center hosts are competitions for cash prizes. RIT's Tiger Tank competition and RIT Business Model competition provide platform to pitch business concepts and be judged by a panel of successful external entrepreneurs.

As entrepreneurial students begin to create fully-formed business plans and desire to continue moving forward, Saunders Summer Startup provides a 10-week intensive, focused on commercialization and seeking investment funding. The program integrates business insights, prototyping and coaching from experienced entrepreneurs to form student ventures. As the young-entrepreneurs graduate from Saunders Summer Startup, teams can apply for Venture Creations, an incubator that provides many services and coaching to early and mid-seed stage start-ups seeking to advance beyond a concept and become a viable, profitable business
