RIT's annual Spring Festival, or SpringFest, is a campus-wide celebration hosted by the College Activities Board. Helping to organize this year's festivities is Avis Lyons, RIT's CAB director. Lyons is a fourth-year international business major who will be graduating this May. She has worked tirelessly to set up SpringFest and she hopes that this year's installment will be the best one yet. SpringFest runs through April 28, culminating with a concert by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on Sunday. For a full list of events, go to http://www.rit.edu/studentaffairs/cab/springfest/.
Question: Where are you from?
Answer: I grew up in Forestville, N.Y.
Q: What brought you to RIT?
A: I was really impressed with RIT's co-op program and I liked the Rochester area.
Q: What has been your favorite thing about RIT?
A: All my opportunities and experiences through my campus involvement, especially with the RIT College Activities Board.
Q: What activities are you involved with on campus?
A: College Activities Board, New Student Orientation, Higher Education Fellowship Program, Alpha Sigma Lambda and the Honors Program.
Q: What is SpringFest?
A: SpringFest is CAB's annual weekend-long festival to celebrate the end of the school year and (typically) the nicer weather. The weekend is full of events sponsored by CAB and other student groups with tons of free entertainment, free food and awesome giveaways all over campus.
Q: Why should people go to SpringFest?
A: SpringFest is a time to take a break from all your typical school obligations and go have some fun. That's what college is all about, right?
Q: What advice would you give to other RIT students?
A: I heard it time and time again, but honestly getting involved on campus made such a positive impact for me at RIT. Find something that interests you, take a risk and just go for it.
Q: What are your plans for after graduation?
A: I'm currently looking for a full-time job in either event planning or student affairs.
