GMAT & GRE Tests
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is the most widely used assessment for graduate management admissions, and it is required for most graduate degree programs at Saunders. Visit the GMAT Guide to learn about the structure of the GMAT test and useful tips to help prepare.
The GRE may also be taken as a substitute of the GMAT exam, however, we prefer you take the GMAT. The GRE is more focused on writing instead of the analytical reasoning. Visit the official GRE website to learn about the structure of the exam.
Information for GMAT and GRE Tests
Many graduate programs at Saunders require applicants to submit a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) exam score to complete your application. However some GMAT / GRE Waiver options are available as outlined below. All GMAT / GRE waiver request must follow the submission instructions below. Note: Waiving the GMAT may limit access to certain merit scholarships.
The graduate admissions committee of Saunders College of Business will consider granting a waiver to the requirement for applicants to submit GMAT or GRE test scores under one of the following conditions:
- The applicant has graduated from an undergraduate program at RIT with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or greater (Note: MS Computational Finance and MS Business Analytics prefer undergraduate quant programs).
- The applicant is enrolled in an undergraduate program at RIT and has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater over a minimum of 90 credit hours with a minimum of 30 credit hours at RIT with a GPA of 3.25 or greater at RIT. (Note: MS Computational Finance and MS Business Analytics prefer undergraduate quant programs).
- The applicant has completed a doctorate, professional, or terminal graduate degree program from an AACSB-accredited or equivalent university and maintained a GPA of 3.25 or greater in that graduate program.
In addition, some programs will consider GMAT/GRE waiver based on the applicants' relevant work experience.
MBA-Accounting and MS-Accounting programs only: A GMAT/GRE waiver may be requested if the applicant has six or more years of U.S.-based work experience and are currently in an accounting management-level position.
MS-Business Analytics program only: A GMAT/GRE waiver may be requested if the applicant has six or more years of IT related work experience and is currently in a management-level position.
MS-Global Supply Chain Management and MS-Technology Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship programs only: A GMAT/GRE waiver may be requested if the applicant has six or more years of professional work experience and is currently in a management-level position.
Executive Education: Executive Education program applicants are not required to submit GMAT scores due to minimum work experience requirements and are not required to submit a GMAT / GRE Waiver.
Submitting GMAT / GRE Waiver Requests
Final determination of the GMAT/GRE waiver will be at the discretion of each graduate program director.

The GMAT Club is a useful website that helps you get access to practice tests, discuss questions and have access to forums in which students can share their GMAT experience, along with their admission process, GMAT online courses reviews and discounts, study plans and more.
There are many apps available online that could help you prepare for the exam, including free and paid versions. Some examples are Magoosh, Manhattan Prep, GMAT Prep by Ready4 and others, depending on the area you choose to focus (verbal, math or both).

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for most Graduate Schools in the United States. Similarly to the GMAT test, once you register for your account, you can schedule the test and have useful resources to help you prepare, such as practice tests, view your scores and chose the test center that works best for you.
GRE Prep Club
Similar to the GMAT Club, the GRE Prep Club provides useful information for students who are preparing for their exam, such as strategies, practice tests and discussion questions, online courses reviews, success stories and more.
There are many apps available online that could help you prepare for the exam. Some examples are Magoosh, Varsity Tutors, Manhattan Prep, GRE Prep by Ready4 and others, depending on the area you choose to focus (verbal, math or both).
Schedule your GMAT or GRE test at least three months prior to the application deadline. It takes time for your official score to get to RIT. They could book up quickly!
- What is the GMAT?
The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is a computer-adaptive standardized test required by graduate business schools. It consists of four main sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Analysis (math), and Verbal Analysis (reading comprehension). - I have a 4.0 GPA. Do I have to take the GMAT?
Most applicants to Saunders College graduate programs must submit a GMAT score. Saunders College grants GMAT waivers for applicants with a PhD, MD, or JD from a university in the United States.
