GMAT & GRE Tests

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is the most widely used assessment for graduate management admissions, and it is required for most graduate degree programs at Saunders. Visit the GMAT Guide to learn about the structure of the GMAT test and useful tips to help prepare.

The GRE may also be taken as a substitute of the GMAT exam, however, we prefer you take the GMAT. The GRE is more focused on writing instead of the analytical reasoning. Visit the official GRE website to learn about the structure of the exam.

The GMAT Club is a useful website that helps you get access to practice tests, discuss questions and have access to forums in which students can share their GMAT experience, along with their admission process, GMAT online courses reviews and discounts, study plans and more.


There are many apps available online that could help you prepare for the exam, including free and paid versions. Some examples are Magoosh, Manhattan Prep, GMAT Prep by Ready4 and others, depending on the area you choose to focus (verbal, math or both).

GRE Official Website

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for most Graduate Schools in the United States. Similarly to the GMAT test, once you register for your account, you can schedule the test and have useful resources to help you prepare, such as practice tests, view your scores and chose the test center that works best for you.

GRE Prep Club

Similar to the GMAT Club, the GRE Prep Club provides useful information for students who are preparing for their exam, such as strategies, practice tests and discussion questions, online courses reviews, success stories and more.

GMAT / GRE Waiver Options

Many graduate programs at Saunders require applicants to submit a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) exam score to complete your application. However some GMAT / GRE Waiver options are available as outlined below. If you qualify for one of these waivers you must first submit an online application. Then email to submit your GMAT waiver request form. Note: Waiving the GMAT may limit access to certain merit scholarships.

Terminal Degree GMAT Waiver

Applicants who have completed a terminal degree (e.g., JD, MD, Ph.D., Ed.D.) with a GPA of 3.25 or higher automatically are granted a waiver of the GMAT/GRE.

MBA, MBA in Accounting, and MS in Accounting GMAT Waiver, for Saunders Undergraduate Students

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and have completed, or will be completing, an undergraduate program at the Saunders College of Business, qualify for a GMAT Waiver.

MS in Management and MS in Entrepreneurship and Innovative Ventures GMAT Waiver

GMAT may be waived if one or more of the following are submitted:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher: If you have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher from an AACSB accredited institution, or similar U.S. based educational institution.
  • Six years or more of U.S.-based work experience: Waiver requests will be reviewed by Program Director if you have six or more years of work experience in an increasingly managerial or leadership position. Please email with your resume/CV and academic profile in order to request this waiver.

Executive Education GMAT Waiver

Executive Education program applicants are not required to submit GMAT scores due to minimum work experience requirements.

How Do I Schedule my GMAT or GRE?

Schedule your GMAT or GRE test at least three months prior to the application deadline. It takes time for your official score to get to RIT. They could book up quickly!

GMAT: Register online for an upcoming GMAT test, or find a location and testing date close to you on the website.

What is the GMAT?

The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is a computer-adaptive standardized test required by graduate business schools. It consists of four main sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Analysis (math), and Verbal Analysis (reading comprehension). I have a 4.0 GPA. Do I have to take the GMAT?

Most applicants to Saunders College graduate programs must submit a GMAT score. Saunders College grants GMAT waivers for applicants with a PhD, MD, or JD from a university in the United States.
