I chose to attend Saunders College of Business, mainly because of the people at Saunders. Upon my first accepted student open house, I knew this was the place for me. Coming from a high school with a graduating class of 89 students, I was used to small class sizes and having an environment where the professors know you. It was always so daunting thinking of a large college where you were a number. The aspect of class sizes drew my attention to Saunders, but the connection I felt with the people I met my first time on campus solidified my decision. The faculty, staff, and students I met at the open house were so inviting that I knew I would fit in this environment. |
My favorite part of my co-ops was I got to experience two different aspects of the accounting field: audit and tax. As an accounting major, there is always the question of audit or tax. The ability to participate in a co-op in each has helped me see which path I want to pursue. Choosing a major is hard. Deciding what you want to do with that major is even more difficult. I am happy that my experience has helped this decision become easier due to being able to experience the day-to-day activities of both. |
The numerous group projects that I have been a part of here have prepared me well for the job market. Working with other people, seeing others' perspectives, and achieving an end goal has been important. Having to coordinate and work with others forces one to strengthen their communication skills, which is highly important and effective in the job market.
The most distinctive advantage I have gained is having both a business major and a technical major at once. Everything is going towards a more technical and system-based approach, especially in the accounting profession. The ease of combining my accounting major with a technical major, Management Information Systems, has helped me stand out in interviews. Having both of these disciplines gave me an edge over the already intense accounting recruiting that goes on. |
