I picked Saunders because of its great professors who put students first. Another valuable asset for the college is that most faculty have industry experience and go beyond the theory in the books. Furthermore, the co-op program and international opportunities, like study abroad, are priceless experiences that differentiate students going into the business world. Ultimately, I chose Saunders at RIT because of the people, opportunities, and emphasis on technology within its curriculum.
I am an Audit Associate at KPMG based out of Buffalo. I work on different engagement teams for each audit, performing many different tasks that support the opinion that we ultimately issue in our report.
During my time at RIT, I had three summer co-ops with different companies, which gave me a look into different industries as well as some experience working in a professional environment. This allowed me to see how the material I studied in the classroom was actually applied in practice. Throughout those experiences, I always felt that I had been well-prepared by Saunders. I also spent a semester studying in Barcelona, Spain, which gave me a whole new perspective on global business and increased cultural intelligence. This experience has helped me to have a more well-rounded mindset in business.
Other than the three co-ops, I think the most significant advantage I have gained from Saunders is the knowledge about technology within my field. In today's business world, technology is nearly always the underlying heartbeat of major companies. Understanding how the different IT systems work together to perform business processes allows me to comprehend the bigger picture of the business operation. My MIS concentration has given me the knowledge to help bridge the gap between the business and technology disciplines.
Saunders gives students all the resources necessary to make a direct impact in the workplace upon graduation. It is imperative to get involved early with the many different clubs and organizations offered by the college. This will allow you to meet many of your peers and take on some leadership roles. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help when something isn't making sense. Lastly, enjoy your time at Saunders. It is a great place to prepare for a meaningful career.
