Academic Advising

The Student Services Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Advisor meetings will be in person, through Zoom, or by phone.  Please use Starfish for available appointment times.  Please see the Zoom access information below for walk-in times, and check your email from your advisor for updates to availability and Zoom access information.

Academic Advisor Walk-in Hours

Your academic advisors are here to help you. Walk-in times are designated for quick, one-on-one meetings between current business students and their advisors. Walk-ins are first-come, first-served, and generally last 15 minutes. Please see the designated walk-in hours for your advisor below. To request more time, schedule an appointment with your advisor through Starfish or by logging in to myCourses.

For students considering a Leave of Absence, please review the University Policy and set up a meeting with your advisor to begin the process.

Transfer Credit

If you are interested in taking a course from another institution and transferring credit back to RIT, work with your academic advisor. Also, review the Transfer Credit Equivalencies on the Registrar's website, where you can search for courses at other institutions RIT has reviewed for transfer credit. You can also request that RIT review courses that are not listed.

Change of Program

Saunders students and non-Saunders students have the option to complete a Change of Program in order to complete a business degree. See below for the specific requirements to start the process. Schedule a meeting today!

Saunders College Students
Current Saunders students who want to change their major to another Saunders College degree or another RIT college must first speak with their academic advisor. To start, go to Starfish and request a meeting with your advisor.

Non-Saunders Students
If you are interested in switching to a business major from another RIT degree program, you must meet with your current academic advisor, then schedule a meeting with:

Change of Program Requirements for Acceptance into Business Majors

  • Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 preferred in courses relevant to Saunders degree, with no D, F, Withdraw or Incomplete grades.
  • Demonstration of adequate quantitative skills, receiving a grade of C or better in one or more of the following math courses:
    • MATH 161 Applied Calculus or Calculus A, B; or STAT 145, 146 Introduction to Statistics I & II
  • Demonstration of adequate communications skills (a grade of C or better):
    • UWRT 150 or ENGL 150 Writing Seminar
    • Artistic or Ethical Reasoning Liberal Arts Perspective or Communications courses
  • Demonstration of adequate business skills (a grade of C or better) in one or more of the following courses:
    • MGMT 150 Business 1T: An Introduction to Business
    • ACCT 110 Financial Accounting
    • INTB 225 Global Business Environment
  • Suggested courses:
    • ECON 101 Principles of Microeconomics and ECON 201 Principles of Macroeconomics
    • MKTG 230 Principles of Marketing or MGMT 215 Organization Behavior
    • Liberal Arts core course

Saunders College of Business reserves the right to deny a change of program application based on the above criteria, academic standing, or students’ demonstrated ability to complete the program requirements. Please note that it may take two or more terms before a decision is made regarding acceptance into a business program.

General Education Requirements

As a Saunders student, you must fulfill four RIT General Education Perspectives before completing your degree. Please view your Academic Requirements in your SIS account. Students should review the SIS course search under “Course Attribute” and choose “PERS” (Gen Ed Perspectives Category) and choose under “Course Attribute Value” either “ARTISTIC”, “SOCIAL”, “SCIE-PRIN” or “NATSCI INQ”.

Biz 1+2 Advisors

While enrolled in The Freshman Experience: Biz 1+2 courses in your first year, your faculty advisor is your Business 1: Ideas and Business Planning instructor. As you enter your second year, you will receive a faculty advisor dedicated to your program of study.
