J. Warren McClure was a World War II Navy veteran and former publisher and owner of the Burlington Free Press. He sold the newspaper to Gannett Co., where he later became the first president of marketing. McClure, who turned to philanthropy in retirement, and his wife, Lois, were important members of the RIT community. McClure served on the RIT board of trustees from 1973 until 1986, was an advisor to Saunders College of Business, and established the McClure Professorship in Marketing which includes lectures by marketing experts in the field.

On April 11, 2019 Saunders College welcomed Jeff Jarvis as the keynote speaker for J. Warren McClure Lecture. Jarvis is the author of Geeks Bearing Gifts: Imagining New Futures for News, Public Parts: How Sharing in the Digital Age Improves the Way We Work and Live, What Would Google Do?, and the Kindle Single Gutenberg the Geek. He also blogs about media and news at Buzzmachine.com and cohosts the podcast This Week in Google. The McClure Lecture is provided through the McClure Professorship in Marketing, which invites the top experts in marketing to speak on campus at Saunders College of Business.
