Why Innovation Management?

Innovation Management is the process by which inventions or creative new ideas are brought to market. Innovation managers must understand the technology ofideas, and often help develop them.  But innovation managers must also understand the business side by managing people, processes, and the innovations themselves.

Innovation management happens in large corporations and non-profit organizations all the way down to brand-new startup ventures.  Graduates of the Master of Science in Innovation Management program have the classroom training and the practical experience necessary to be highly successful managers of innovation.

The Program

The Master of Science degree in Innovation Management prepares students to lead the development and successful introduction of high technology solutions. Students in the program will gain expertise and experience in managing the innovation process: bringing new solutions from concept to widespread use, typically though not necessarily for profit.

This program is interdisciplinary, including courses from a number of academic departments and colleges within RIT.

Artists – Imaging art scientists, film producers, and photographers are all enveloped in a fast-paced environment characterized by quickly advancing technologies. Stay competitive.

Engineers and Scientists– Become a leader in your area of expertise by taking business courses, engineering or science innovation courses, and working on projects with consequential outcomes.

Entrepreneurs – Focus on the innovations in your own business while working alongside industry professionals.

Managers – Work with the projects of established companies and learn to succeed as a manager in a specialized field of your choosing.

Students have a number of opportunities, including the following:

  • Create your own specialization rather than choosing from existing ones.
  • Experience an innovation-focused curriculum.
  • Work with projects of established companies.
  • Create, market, and launch your own product.
  • Work with the Venture Creations Business Incubator.
  • Build an understanding of business leadership while working closely with the Science, Engineering, or Imaging Arts and Sciences Colleges.
