Meet Qiang (John)

Qiang (John) Tu is a Professor of Management Information Systems in the E. Philip Saunders College of Business of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He teaches at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Dr. Tu is winner of the prestigious Elwood S. Buffa Doctoral Dissertation Competition award sponsored by the national Decision Sciences Institute and Irwin/McGraw-Hill. An outstanding group of reviewers carefully evaluated the dissertations submitted from all business disciplines nationwide in terms of their originality, contribution to theory, contribution to practice, quality of research design and methodology, and clarity of expression. They concluded that Dr. Tu's research is "a very strong work, with an excellent integration of the literature" and made "substantial contribution to the decision sciences, and of interest to both academics and practitioners."

Author of many published journal articles and conference papers and presentations, Dr. Tu's research focuses on information systems and operations management strategy, technology management, and behavioral issues in information systems and operations management. He has published extensively in prestigious journals such as Information Systems Research, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Sciences, Communications of the ACM, Journal of Information Technology Management, OMEGA: the International Journal of Management Science, Information Resources Management Journal, Journal of Strategic Information Systems and the Computers and Industrial Engineering Journal.

Dr. Tu received his Ph.D. degree from the College of Business Administration in the University of Toledo in 1999. He earned an M.S. in Systems Engineering and a B.S. in Management Science from Jiatong University, China. He had several years of business experience in China, where he helped establish high tech joint ventures before starting his doctoral studies in the U.S.
